Folding urban bike is great concept of flexibility. Today a lot of emphasis is being given to flexibility and sustainability with respect to mode of transport. In these lines comes the concept designed by English designer Thomas Jowen. He has named this conceptual design as ‘One’, which is an urban bike that can be folded when not in use. The bike has a standard handle with saddle as in any bike but the difference being that it looks sporty. When it is folded, it makes a compact round shaped design which hardly occupies any space. It surely looks a good solution to road congestion.

IziBi is a compact, stylish and portable mountain bicycle which is specially designed for extremists with single rear and front suspension. The frame is made of a reinforced carbon fiber polymer and the direct drive mechanism is made of aluminum alloy which is not only strong but also reduces the maintenance expenses. You will be able to fold the bicycle entirely by simply pressing the top and bottom switches on the frame and the front half slides in half of the bicycle. You can swing the back wheel around by detaching the latch below the seat and meet up with the front transforming into a compact and neat fold.

TFL Bikeshare Network Concept with Foldable E-Bike and Electrical Modular Buses

The TFL Bikeshare network concept outlines an efficient and healthy way to realize the ultimate solution for commuters. This concept comprises a foldable e-bike that can be rode from the home and deposited to modular mobile hub, and board a bus. Upon arrival at destination, another hub will be there to rent another bike through using the unique Oystercard which can be availed by leasing the service on a per trip or monthly basis.

The E-bike has been designed with airless tires, robust tubular construction and shaft drive, ensuring durability, while the luminated front bar and dazzling graphics increase the visibility and safety for the rider. E-bikes have designed to be folded quickly and intuitively by the user and deposit it into the storage modules after arriving to a transit hub. RFID technology has been utilized to charge the users on their Oystercard according to the amount of E-bike rental time. When docked, E-bikes act as hub seating and get charged for the next renter.

Transit hubs optimize the traveler’s transitional experience between renting bike schedule called Bikeshare and boarding on a bus. It’s not often that I could see such a revolutionary design yet it is not just a concept. This bike design from Kevin Scott is a bendable bicycle that you can literally wrap around a lamp post or a pole. It certainly will stop thieves from targeting your bike. The young Industrial Designer used a ratchet system built into the frame of the bike to make it possible to wrap the bike around a pole. The bike bends to lock onto itself, there’s no need for a chain, a regular bike lock will be able to secure the frame and both wheels. His main objective was not just to secure all bike’s components within the lock, but also to allow the bike to be stored in small spaces. A very cool bike design, indeed!

Ville Folding Bike Doubles As A Shopping Cart

Bicycle Friendly Communities are growing. There are great reasons for this trend, bicycle is the most energy efficient form of transportation known to man, it’s eco friendly, and it provides a great form of exercise. Ville is an urban folding bicycle that answers the urban commuter needs. It incorporates a folding design that allows for easy storage while not in use. ReCycle Me is an eco friendly plastic city bike by Omer Sagiv. It is made of recyclable moulded plastic to reduce its negative impact to the environment. It is equipped with a dynamo to power the lights. It has integrated seatsuspension. You can easily fold this bike for easy storage. This bicycle is one of shortlisted designs of Cycle Design Competition 2010.
