SOLARIS : Eco Friendly Sun Shading System For Outdoor Public Spaces

SOLARIS is a sun shading system which uses solar energy to create new work and leisure spaces. It allows you to work/study in outdoor places such as cafés, parks, and beaches by creating a shaded area and providing a power source for electronic devices. SOLARIS aims to promote new experiences and habits for a more sustainable and socially inclusive city landscape.

SOLARIS has 6 “wings”, each with two photovoltaic panels, which revolve around a central column for easy stowing. When opened, the wings work as a sunshade, with photovoltaic cells that charge a set of batteries in the base. In the central column there is a LED display power indicator. Three electrical sockets are available in the base, for charging portable computers, cell phones or any kind of electronic devices. A silicone shock absorbing colored strip at the base protects the structure and creates an electrical neutral area with a handle for transportation.

This will enable even the visually impaired or color blind people to read the traffic lightsthrough strong visual sense created by only one light. Rather than taking electricity from the power grid, this concept features solar panel on the surface through which it accumulates solar energy which will save around 1 billion degrees of electricity every year.

Eco Drop Is A Fierced Fighter Against Chemical Fertilizers And A Strong Ally Of Underground Water

If you love flowers or a green lawn, if you like your vegetables green, not in colour but in health, the Eco-Drop is the perfect gardener for you. The device is a sustainable gardening system that utilizes the benefits of Earthworms. The designer, Seung Kim, thought about the idea while reading a newspaper article regarding underground water contamination due to chemical fertilizers. This water saving gardener system with worm-juice. The Eco-Drop system is designed to streamline the currently complicated process of using the worm-juice as a fertilizer. It promotes a safer and sustainable way to nurture plants and vegetables in people’s lawns and gardens. The system includes a worm compost bin, a feed tank, and compatible irrigation systems: includes a sprinkler with a spike, and an oscillating sprinkler, that connects to a standard garden hose.

Using Eco-Drop is simple and easy! The system includes feed-tanks that you use to conveniently transfer worm-juice from the worm compost bin to any of Eco-Drop’s irrigation system. Simply, connect your garden hose to the irrigation system and let the Eco-Drop do the rest. The specially designed tube in the feed-tank regulates the mixing of the worm-juice with water, allowing the worm-juice to go straight from the wormcompost bin to the system’s compatible irrigation systems. This eliminates the steps of a user manually mixing the worm-juice with water in a bucket prior to spraying with a watering can. One added benefit of using Eco-Drop is that Earthworms can feed on our food waste, which can help reduce the current rate of food waste dumping in landfills.

Smoker Bench Design with Two Pillars for The Ash or Disposing The Cigarette Stubs

The new project named as Smoker bench, is as the name signifies a place where the smokerscan smoke and socialize in peace without a hassle. The bench consisting of a two side sitting area with supporting pillars, which double up as containers to flip the ash or disposing the cigarette stubs. The designer has put to use the connecting portion between the two pillars as grass can be grown adding to the visual feel. Also it helps in promoting the clean and green message to all those who spend time there, although in a silent manner. The main aim of this place is to provide a unique public place for smoker and protect the non-smoker at the same time.

Home of Firefly : Beautiful and Natural Outdoor Light from Fireflies

When I was a kid, it was so fascinating to watch this beautiful lightning bug. I often caught fireflies in my cupped hands just to peek through my fingers to watch them glow. This design certainly brings back my childhood memories. Living in a big city, I’ve never had the chance to see these fascinating insects anymore. “Home of Firefly” offers a beautiful outdoor light and at the same time provides a habitat for fireflies. It uses the insects’ natural bioluminescence to illuminate your gardens or footpaths. Since fireflies mostly live in low, moist places, Home of Firefly has been designed as a feeding place, close to the ground. This ecologically sensitive design offers a new meaning in mutual relationship between human and nature.

Mobius Strip Lamp Helps Reducing Visual Clutter In Big Cities

In big cities, you can see a lot of visual clutter that can cause confusion and disorientation for drivers and pedestrians such as temporary signs, vehiclesignals, posters, electronic signs, and many more. In order to reduce visual clutter, Mobius Strip Lamp was designed. The name itself came from MobiusStrip, it was used as a metaphor for the circulation of human in the city. Mobius Strip Lamp integrates vehicle signals, pedestrian signals, and a street lamp in one single installation. This design is one of great entries at Red Dot Design Award.

This ingenious design displays the vehicle signals on the uppermost horizontal display panel along with the remaining time. The pedestrian signals are displayed on the verticalpanel, also with the remaining time. The street lamp provides great visibility for the drivers and pedestrians while crossing the street. Hopefully we can enjoy environment with less visual clutter in the future.

Wind and Solar Powered Hybrid Street Lamp from Urban Energy

The innovative wind and solar powered hybrid street lamp concept can not only produce light by using renewable energy, also it’s a boost to an everyday object that can operate completely off-grid. This concept was derived from the effort of designers to create a more sustainable future that integrates a range of reusable energy technologies into everyday life objects. These lamps comprise a solar array connected with a wind turbine, and can produce up to 380W of power.

These wind/solar powered street lamps are fitted to locally made, usual galvanized steel poles and can be easily swapped with previous street lamps. The turbines can be either a horizontal axis wind turbine or a 2nd generation 300W vertical axis wind turbine. Two solar panels are mounted on the side of the pole that is capable of producing up to 80W of power.
